·At least one
parent (or legal guardian) must give consent.
·There needs to
be a commitment to raise the child in the Catholic Church.
·Parents and
sponsors must attend a Baptismal Prep Class, offered on the 2nd Tuesday
at St. John the Baptist in English, or on the 4th Monday at St. Nicholas
in Spanish, both are at 7:00 pm. If a class has been attended at
another Catholic Church in the past 2 years is not required to the
class, but a letter from the church certifying the attendance in the
class must be presented no later than one week before the Baptism.
·It is
necessary to provide a copy of the birth certificate.
·Must attend a
Baptism Preparation Class – please refer to the details below.
Requirements for
Godparents:
·You may have 1
or 2 Godparents, no more than 2. If there are two, they must be one
male and one female.
·Godparents
must be over the age of 16, received their Sacraments of Initiation
(Baptism, Communion, Confirmation).
·Godparents
must be Catholics in good standing, practicing their faith and not
living in a situation contrary to Catholic teaching (ie, living with
someone and not married).
·If married,
Godparents must have been married in the Catholic Church.
·Godparents
must provide Confirmation and Marriage Certificates.
·If Godparents
are from a different Catholic parish, that parish must send us a letter
indicating they are members in good standing.
·If Godparents
want to take the Baptism class at another parish they must provide a
letter stating they took the class no later than one week before the
Baptism.
·If there is
only one Catholic Godparent, there may be 1 non-Catholic Christian
witness. They are a witness to the Baptism, but are not a Godparent and
are not asked to assume the responsibilities of a Godparent. Christian
witnesses must also be Baptized. There must be one Catholic Godparent.
·Must attend a

Baptism Preparation Classes:
The parents of the child to be Baptized and the Godparents must attend a
Baptismal Preparation Class, either through St Nicholas, St John the
Baptist in Johnstown or through their
local parish. If the classes are attended at a different parish we
must receive some written confirmation from that parish that the classes
were attended and completed for each person that attended.
Classes must have been taken within the last 2 years.
Registration is required before attending a class. Classes offered
are:
English Baptism classes - second Tuesdays of every month at 7:00 pm at
St. John the Baptist, 1000 Country Acres Dr, Johnstown
Spanish Baptism classes - fourth Mondays of every month
at 7:00 pm in the St. Nicholas Hall.

First Reconciliation
First Reconciliation is offered to the students in our Second Level RE
Class. Students must attend every class, missing no more than 2
classes each semester. Students must also attend Sunday Mass on a
weekly basis. Please check in with Estella after Mass.
First Holy Communion
First Holy Communion is
offered to the students in our Third Level RE Class.
Students must attend every class, missing no more than 2
classes each semester. Students must also attend Sunday Mass on a
weekly basis. Please check in with Estella after Mass.
Confirmation
This year Confirmation will be offered to our Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth
Level students.
Students must attend every class, missing no more than 2
classes each semester. Students must also attend Sunday Mass on a
weekly basis. Please check in with Estella after Mass.
Marriage
Anyone wishing to be married in the Catholic Church will need to attend
Marriage Preparation Classes.
Please contact the
office one year before the wedding to begin the marriage preparation
process.
